Ice Cube may be best known for his work in the rap group N.W.A. (or possibly you know him better from the movie “Are We There Yet”) but the rapper also has an affinity for architecture. Ice Cube is especially fond of buildings like the Forum, 5 Torches, Cockatoo Inn, Watts Towers, and of course, the Eames House.

Ice Cube cruises the streets of L.A. in a 1960s Lincoln Continental convertible for the “ Pacific Standard Time: Art in L.A. 1945-1980 ” video to promote art in California.

Ice Cube said:

“What was appealing was showing off Los Angeles to people who think they know what Los Angeles is all about… Everybody who comes here thinks they got the place figured out, but you can never get this place figured out.”

The rapper also reveals a little known fact about himself. Before Ice Cube made it big with N.W.A. studied architectural drafting. According to the LAist , Ice Cube studied architecture at a trade school in Arizona.

Here’s Ice Cube’s architecture video for Pacific Standard Time.

Ice Cube isn’t the first artist to film a video for Pacific Standard Time’s campaign. Jason Schwartzman and Anthony Kiedis, who was just inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame, have both made videos celebrating the art scene in LA.

What did you think of Ice Cube’s video? Do you like the architecture in LA?
