A police officer tried to stop a woman sleeping in a white Mustang. The incident involving the New Smyrna Beach Police Department occurred in the state of Florida. However, she made the mistake of not stopping and driving directly to her home. She accelerated her vehicle and passed other vehicles despite the officer asking her to stop.
What could have been a simple traffic stop turned into an arrest for her after she eluded a uniformed officer. The officer went to her home and said, “Turn around. Put your hands behind your back. You’re under arrest for fleeing law enforcement.”
He mentioned everything was recorded on his bodycam, so there was no point in denying it. She ended up calling her dad for help, but to her surprise, he did not side with her. He was angry and noted, “You’ll learn a lesson eventually, you know.” Furthermore, he added, “You’re going to spend the weekend in jail, and you’ll see how invincible you are. And you know what? It might teach you a lesson now.”
From his tone, it seemed like this wasn’t her first time being in legal trouble. Officers arrested her and took her into custody after her dad refused to help. She asked the officer how long she would be in jail. He told her. “It’ll probably take a couple of hours just for processing and stuff, but it honestly shouldn’t be too long.”
Identified as Tara, the young woman was arrested on charges including disobeying a no-passing zone sign, fleeing, and eluding law enforcement officers. She received a traffic citation of $166 while the case is still open. Her bond was set at $2,500. She has not yet entered a plea deal or disposition. The officer towed her vehicle and put it on a 30-day hold.
The bodycam video has over 21k views. Many people agreed with the dad who gave her an earful on the phone. One viewer wrote, “It kind of sounded like dad was waiting for exactly this kind of opportunity.” Another viewer posted, “I like how she basically confessed to the crime in the call to her father. Not the brightest bulb.”
A third viewer commented, “He’s the first parent on YouTube that has ever earned my respect. Great father!” Another one pointed out, “Based on her conversation with her dad, it’s clear she’s been arrested before – she wasn’t even a little bit upset that she was going to spend the weekend in jail.”
