An emotional courtroom hearing unfolded in Jefferson County, Texas, when Judge Stevens Jr. sternly reviewed charges against a defendant facing child custody interference charges. As he reviewed the entire case details, he also criticized the mother for illegally keeping marijuana in the home where her children lived regularly with her.

According to a YouTube video posted on Law, Crime & Punishment‘s channel, a recent hearing turned into an emotional rollercoaster after a judge strictly asked the defendant to take responsibility for her actions and “fix the mess.” The woman appeared before the court on state jail felony charges that can lead to up to two years of imprisonment.

Even before the hearing started, the woman was seen breaking down, and a surprised judge went on to ask her, “What are you crying about? We hadn’t even started.” In response, she admitted to finding him “scary,” and the judge calmed her down and acknowledged that it was a less serious felony, but noted that the woman may not want to have a felony on record.

The information discussed in court suggested that the police officials discovered a “green leafy substance recognized to be marijuana” inside the home shared by the defendant and her children.

According to information discussed in court, Texas police reportedly discovered marijuana inside a home shared by the woman and her children. The woman was charged with possession of marijuana of that nature, and the judge expressed his displeasure, stating, “Shame on you. That’s just shame on you. You’re supposed to be an example.”

The judge also directly questioned the woman to confirm the connection between the residence where the drugs were found and the children. After the woman confessed that the said home had been their residence, the judge severely criticized the incident and its impact on the children.

He said, “Illegal drugs around children are forbidden, much less it’s poor parenting. You’re supposed to set a role-modeling example.” The woman had an emotional breakdown during the exchange, but the judge maintained his firm stance, insisting the woman focus on her children, whom she told were 8 and 10 years old.

Judge Stevens Jr. suggested the woman fix her priorities, with her children topping the list, followed by her mother, and herself in third position. The judge repeatedly asked the woman to address the issues that led her to the court and warned that failing to do so could endanger important parts of her life. The Texas judge added, “Well, you can cry all day long, but what are you crying about? You got caught? Fix this mess. Do you understand?”

During the interaction, the defense attorney stated that they were acquiring a psychological report to add further context regarding the custody dispute, which may help settle the case. The judge encouraged the woman to take the steps to make necessary improvements and cooperate with the legal process. “On my watch, you’re going to fix it. Fix this mess before you free-fall into the great abyss.”

The matter was eventually scheduled for a future court appearance, with both parties discussing and reviewing additional information linked to the accusations.
