Texas Judge Stephanie Boyd handed out an 18-year sentence to a defendant in a child sexual assault case, along with directing him to comply with s*x offender registration. The case comes from Texas and was a 2024 incident. It was a plea bargain, at which both prosecution and defense were present. The felon, identified as Carlos Gilbert Aleman, pleaded guilty to the charge of s*xual assault of a child. Aleman waived his right to a jury trial, confirming that he was not coerced into taking the plea.

A medical assessment of Aleman was requested by defence attorney Patrick Hancock, which was granted by Judge Boyd.

Texas Penal Code §22.021 dictates that the sexual assault of a minor counts as a first-degree felony. It carries a sentence of anywhere between five and 99 years. There is a mandatory 25-year minimum sentence if the victim of the assault is under 10 years old. It could also impose fines up to $10,000. If the victim is under 14 years of age, then parole for the convicted felon will not be possible until half of the sentence is served.

Since it was uploaded three days ago, the clip has managed to rack up over thirty thousand views, with the comments sounding off on the case and the manner in which Judge Stephanie Boys handed out the sentence.

Comments were largely concerned by the fact that the felon allegedly got a very light sentence for the damage that he had caused, and should have been given the death penalty for his crimes. Some have noted the advanced age of the defendant, saying that he might just die of natural causes before he finishes his sentence.

One comment read, “He is 71? Plus 18 yrs ?” Another comment read, “Let the other prisoners deal with this man…they hate child r***** and are merciless to these evil men!!” A third comment noted, “Should’ve got the death penalty.” A fourth comment read, “Ol’ fool thought he was part of the Epstein class”

Some comments wondered how his fines would be collected, which is likely either going to extend his punishment (if he is unable to pay them) or with his property being seized.
