Singer Fiona Apple made her return to the stage Wednesday night in a rare live appearance at this year’s South By Southwest Conference and Festival.
The performance, Fiona’s first live show in five years, included a handful of new songs from her upcoming album – due this June – titled The Idler Wheel is wiser than the Driver of the Screw, and Whipping Cords will serve you more than Ropes will ever do .
The Sun-Times writes that Apple interacted very little with the crowd during the show, joking that she may have forgotten to sing the second verse of a new song, but pleased fans with some of their favorites, including “Criminal,” “Fast As You Can” and “Sleep to Dream.”
As for the new material, the 34-year-old singer happily unveiled three new tunes, “Anything We Want,” “Valentine,” and “Every Single Night.”
Following Apple’s performance, Twitter was afire with fans around the country expressing dismay at not being able to attend the event, but videos of her stage return and the new songs were quickly fed to the Internet.
Here is Fiona’s complete setlist for the SXSW 2012 show:
01 “Fast As You Can” 02 “On The Bound” 03 “Paper Bag” 04 “Mistake” 05 “Anything We Want” 06 “Valentine” 07 “Sleep to Dream” 08 “Extraordinary Machine” 09 “Every Single Night” 10 “Carrion” 11 “Criminal”
