It’s been a good week for singer/songwriter Fiona Apple. This week mark’s the debut of her latest album, which took her a good seven years to produce. The album, which is verbosely titled, “The Idler Wheel Is Wiser than the Driver of the Screw, and Whipping Cords will Serve You More than Ropes Will Ever Do” is a ten track personal reveal.
During the promotion of the album, Apple says that for a while she suffered through Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, telling Elle magazine about her lowest point,” At its worst, I was compelled to leave my house at three o’clock in the morning and go out in the alley because I just knew that the paper-towel roll I threw in the recycling bin was uncomfortable, like it was lying the wrong way, and I would be down in the garbage.”
Even though Fiona Apple seems to be doing fine for the most part these days, she still suffers a bit from her OCD, saying that it’s hard for her to travel, which could make it difficult to promote her new album. “I’ll be going to [Los Angeles venue] Largo to see my friends … [and] I’ll start freaking out, and it won’t stop until I’m actually there.”
Earlier this month during a conversation with Pitchfork , the singer revealed that she’s a bit of a hermit, and that her life is very simple, saying at the time, “I still don’t know how to drive. I don’t go anywhere, really, except for Largo. My brother drives me. I walk around my neighborhood but I don’t go anywhere, nor do I want to.”
