Far Cry 3 was originally announced for release on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 around early September, but Ubisoft announced today that the release date for the title has been pushed back a month or two, depending on where you’re located.
The release date for Far Cry 3 is now expected on November 29 in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Those of us in the United States will have to wait just a bit longer than that– Far Cry 3 won’t ship in the U.S. until December 4.
Here’s an explanation for the Far Cry 3 delay, straight from Ubisoft producer Dan Hay:
“We’re taking more time to create the best possible gameplay experience. Far Cry 3 is a huge offering and we want every element of this insane, action-packed adventure to be of the highest possible quality for the players.”
Fary Cry 3 places players on a remote tropical island where natural beauty serves as a backdrop to an exploration of insanity. The game’s antagonist, who is clearly insane himself, is constantly bringing up the idea of insanity to the game’s protagonist, and some of the trailers we’ve seen suggest that the game’s star might not be quite sane himself.
The story’s well and good, but what players have generally come to Far Cry games for is the open world gameplay, where you can decide what you want to do, how you want to approach it, and when you want to do it. Far Cry 3 appears to be far more directed than previous games, but the developers insist that the open world is still there.
