Texas Judge Stephanie Boyd delivered a long sentence to an abusive father. The accused, identified as Jason Andre Reese, had se– abused his 8-year-old daughter. Although he accepted responsibility for his crime, he defended himself.

His excuses were alcohol and being raised a certain way. Apart from this, he was a convicted felon who had spent time in prison on different occasions.

The judge asked how he was dealing with the remorse of his actions and what sentence he should be given. Boyd asked, “Mr. Reese, the state has requested that your punishment be assessed at a cap of 15 years. What do you think you should be sentenced to?”

He replied, “I was hoping for eight, Your Honor.” She fired back, “No. Everybody has hopes and dreams. My question is, what do you think you deserve?” The disgraced father replied, “I deserve what Judge Stephanie Boyd is going to give me.”

She asked him the same question again, and he asked for ten years. The judge asked, “Why not 15?” He asked for a shorter sentence so he could take care of the daughter whose life he destroyed. The judge reminded him, “But you’re accused of molesting. I don’t think she wants your help. I could be wrong on that because I haven’t spoken to her.”

She questioned his mindset regarding the crime. The accused had molested his daughter while she was in the shower, yet he still attempted to justify what he had done. Ultimately, the judge announced, “The court is finding you guilty as previously stated. The court is going to sentence you to 15 years.” In addition to the prison term, he was ordered to pay a $1,500 fine and barred from having any contact with his daughter.

There were no witnesses to the incident, but the court heard a victim impact testimony. The mother’s testimony stated, “When my daughter told me what Jason had done to her, my heart sank with a wrenching pain. That same day, I made the police report. I was in disbelief that this could ever happen to me. All the memories and moments of her life and character raced through my mind, and I was in shock that this man, who had the privilege of being in the presence of this caring, sweet person, could ever dare to take her innocence away from her for his own perverted pleasure.”

She also ensured her daughter would have the right support system and therapy to deal with the aftermath of the abuse.
