Lindsay Clancy’s mother, Paula Musgrove, testified in court and revealed how her daughter was struggling mentally. She shared her dark thoughts with her mother about harming her three kids — Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and 8-month-old Callan.
Clancy stands accused of murdering her three children and then trying to kill herself, which left her paralyzed. Her mother revealed Clancy was nervous even to drive the kids to school and was anxious due to the effects of her new medication.
She revealed a text message that Clancy sent to her as a cry for help. On October 20, 2022, Lindsay texted her mother, “Mom, will you please come up and stay with me for a bit? I’m really sick. Something is wrong. I have horrible insomnia all night, and I don’t know how I’m going to get through the day. I started taking medicine my doctor prescribed for anxiety, and I think it’s made things worse. It’s just really scary, and I don’t want to be alone.”
Musgrove replied, “Yes, I’ll come today. I’ll be there late this morning, ok?” Then she drove from Connecticut to Massachusetts that day and stayed with Clancy until October 24.

The grandmother also revealed Clancy told her and her then-husband about the dark thoughts she had. She said, “She told us that she had thoughts of harming the children.” She added, “I remember Pat asking her if she felt like she couldn’t be alone with the children, and she said, ‘No.’” She noted Clancy was a dedicated mother before she got sick.
Musgrove almost broke down when she said, “I love my grandchildren with all my heart, and you will never know what it is like to love a grandchild until you become a grandmother.” Prosecutor Jennifer Sprague asked the grandmother if she ever thought about having Lindsay committed to a mental institution. She replied, ”No.” She had the same reply when the prosecutor asked her, “Were you concerned for the children’s safety at that point in time?”
Lindsay’s mother mentioned her daughter’s mental health had deteriorated four months before the death of her children. On Oct. 20, 2022, Clancy texted Musgrove asking for help, stating she felt severely ill and did not want to be alone. Musgrove moved in that day and continually monitored her daughter’s mental health and medication side effects via text during periods they were separated.

Lindsay’s lawyer, Kevin Reddington, has argued in court that Lindsay had severe postpartum psychosis and was on 13 different medications. She was also hallucinating and hearing voices when she committed the murders. Meanwhile, the prosecutors want to hold her responsible for her actions.
The courtroom video was posted by Law&Crime Trials and was watched by more than 200K YouTube users. The trial has become a national interest and has divided many people who demand justice for the deceased kids and many who sympathize with Clancy, who was failed by the medical system.
One viewer commented under the video, “Heartbreaking. No matter what the outcome, nobody wins here… just devastating.” Another one sympathized, “Can’t even imagine the grief of these grandparents.” One more posted, “So Lindsay was brave enough to share her struggles: thoughts of self-harm, harming the children, constantly being afraid and anxious, and those closest to her thought it was ok to leave her alone with 3 children?”
“If Lindsay expressed the fact that she had thoughts of harming the children, why didn’t the family pool together and have someone on duty 24/7 to make sure she did not harm them?” asked another one.
