Superhero MMO Champions Online doesn’t officially launch until September 1st, but beta access to the title, available from today, has already run into trouble. The nefarious villain in this case? A patcher that constantly disconnects.
Numerous users have reported that the official Champions Online patcher has seen cripplingly slow download speeds, with time-out disconnections from the server a consistent source of annoyance for many.
But… what’s that? Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No! It’s, uh, Champions Online forum user Firann, flying this way in his cape with a solution to your patchy woes! A group of users at the forum deduced that a mistake in the install files means the game tries to download a colossal 3.6 GB patch upon loading. Firann has concocted a step-by-step guide to correcting the launcher by reducing the size of the patch to just 56 MB.
