The Bronx Zoo peacock (actually, pea hen ) had a brief spate of freedom traversing the Boogie Down, but the animal has since been returned to captivity.
According to flak for the Zoo, the peahen is chilling out and unlikely to escape again:
“She has been examined by our veterinarians at our Wildlife Health Center, where she is resting comfortably,” Jim Breheny, the zoo’s director, said in a statement.
Even after the bird flew the coop, the zoo will continue to allow peafowl to roam the zoo grounds uncaged.
“We are confident that after this peahen’s recent adventure, she won’t want to wander from her home at the zoo,” Breheny said.
The peahen flew the coop on Monday, and eluded several handlers, escaping from the roof of a car and a fence. During her brief respite, the peahen gained over 4,000 Twitter followers. A few weeks back, a cobra went missing from the Zoo’s Reptile House, attracting national attention. The snake was later found under a rock near her cage within the Zoo.
