Luis D. Ortiz On Fear After Leaving ‘MDLNY’: Fans Helped Him Move On From Real Estate


Luis D. Ortiz made a huge decision earlier this year when he decided to leave everything behind. With a booming career in real-estate, clients calling him all the time with million-dollar deals and starring on an Emmy-nominated show, Luis realized that his heart was simply not in it anymore. D. Ortiz wanted something else in his life, but he had no idea what he wanted to do. He shocked everyone with his decision, even though he had struggled throughout the season.

According to a new Bravo report, Luis D. Ortiz is now revealing that he was scared and nervous when he announced that he was leaving Million Dollar Listing New York behind to pursue another career. Throughout the season, D. Ortiz tried various things to fix his feelings, including getting some therapy, building a team and even trying various things in his personal life. But as it turns out, Luis needed to leave the industry.

“I was very scared, but the fanbase and the platform where I exposed that decision actually encouraged me and it helped me a lot ’cause I knew that I put that out there,” Luis D. Ortiz revealed in an interview with Bravo, sharing that he was scared when he announced his decision to leave the show during the show’s season finale in the summer.

When the season finale aired on Bravo, Luis D. Ortiz was actually in Greece with Ryan Serhant for his wedding. People were shocked and quickly reached out to him via social media about his decision. While some people were shocked and saddened that they wouldn’t be seeing him on Million Dollar Listing New York anymore. When D. Ortiz started reading the sweet messages on social media from viewers, he knew that he had made the right decision about leaving the industry behind.

“Seeing the response from the fans and everything really, really encouraged me that it was the right thing too and beautifully enough I’m here two months later about to start something huge. I can’t say yet and it had everything to do with the fact that I followed my gut when I actually felt scared,” Luis D. Ortiz explains in the interview with Bravo, adding, “So [at the time] I hadn’t watched the episode and seeing how they react to things I already knew [happened] but wasn’t sure how it was going to play out [in the episode], it was a very good moment where I was engaging with the audience and the audience was telling me what they were watching.”

But just because Luis D. Ortiz decided to leave the show doesn’t mean it was done with confidence or a plan. D. Ortiz admits that he did experience some fear after leaving real-estate and he can only laugh about it now. Luis reveals that he does find himself thinking about his decision and he doesn’t really know what he wants to do. Over the past couple of months, Luis D. Ortiz has been working on his first book and he may be getting some advice from Fredrik Eklund, who recently published his bestselling book, The Sell. But that doesn’t mean he hasn’t experienced some fear about his huge life change.

“I embraced it,” Luis D. Ortiz explains about his new life, according to Bravo, adding, “I would actually be in the shower and think about everything I just did and laugh out loud and say, ‘You’re f***ing crazy, man.’ I would say it’s amazing, not even knowing what I was going to do. It just feels right, so I embraced it — every moment of it.”
