DisneyQuest At Walt Disney World Closing In 2016 To Make Way For NBA Experience

Walt Disney World has announced that they will be closing DisneyQuest sometime in 2016 and bringing an end to their indoor interactive theme park. The announcement comes as Downtown Disney is being transformed into Disney Springs, which will bring in over 150 retailers, restaurants, and experiences. DisneyQuest will be closing to make way for the brand new NBA Experience.

The Orlando Sentinel did report that the closure has been confirmed by Disney, but there is no official date in place.

A source did reach out to the Inquisitr to state that the first sign came about at DisneyQuest on Monday. That was the final day for guests to purchase annual passes to the 100,000-square-foot giant arcade.

“As of June 29, cast members received word that the annual pass for DisneyQuest was being discontinued that day.”

DisneyQuest is located at Disney West Side, and it is a five-story building full of arcade games, virtual reality experiences, pinball machines, bumper cars, an animation academy, and so much more. It opened at Walt Disney World in 1998.

Back in early June, the Disney Parks Blog revealed that the NBA Experience would be coming to Walt Disney World, but it never said exactly where. It did say “Disney Springs,” but never an exact location.

“The NBA Experience at Walt Disney World Resort is going to be a one-of-a-kind destination featuring hands-on activities that put families and guests of all ages right in the middle of NBA game action. You’ll be able to explore inside the world of professional basketball with numerous interactive experiences and enjoy a restaurant and retail store.”

Ed Chambers, president of the Service Trades Council coalition of Disney unions, has said that there will be new jobs made available for all cast members working at DisneyQuest.

Disney Springs is one of the largest expansions in the history of Walt Disney World, and it is set to be completed sometime in 2016. There are new restaurants, two new parking garages, new stores, new experiences, and a total makeover coming to the area.

The NBA Experience will be getting one of the largest spots in the Disney Springs area once it takes the place of DisneyQuest.

A lot of changes are coming to the Walt Disney World Resort, and the DisneyQuest makeover into the NBA Experience is just one of them. Disney is always looking to advance and meet the needs and requests of guests. For those that love DisneyQuest though, now is the time to visit before its closing sometime in 2016.
