The police state has now completely lost the plot. A student in the UK was arrested for theft over a phone he found and was handing into police.
Paul Leicester found the handset lying in the street on his 18th birthday, and rang the last number dialled, telling a friend of the owner he would leave the phone at a nearby police station, according to the Daily Express . On attending the local police station to hand over the phone, officers arrested him for “theft by finding”, held him for four hours and took a DNA sample.
Paul told the paper that he won’t be doing the right thing again in the future: “I thought I was doing the right thing and had it thrown back in my face. I wouldn’t go to the police in future. All I was doing was the honest thing. It was a shocking experience.”
After being contacted by the media, police say that they would be reviewing the circumstances of the arrest.
