President Donald Trump‘s enthusiasm for AI-generated images was back on display as he posted an artificially altered image of his face on the historic Mount Rushmore.
President Trump often posts a slew of random AI pictures on social media. Keeping up with this tradition, he took to Truth Social on Sunday, May 31, 2026, and shared an AI-generated picture of Mount Rushmore, which depicted his face alongside the other four famous U.S. presidents originally carved into the mountain in Keystone, South Dakota.

Mount Rushmore is a major landmark in the United States, representing the country’s key stages since its formation. Located in the Black Hills of Keystone, South Dakota, the iconic monument features the faces of four former U.S. presidents. These are George Washington, representing the birth of the nation; Thomas Jefferson, representing the growth and expansion of the country; Theodore Roosevelt, representing the economic development and conservation in the U.S.; and Abraham Lincoln, representing the preservation of the country during the Civil War.
Designed and supervised by sculptor Gutzon Borglum, each face carved on Mount Rushmore is about 60 feet (18 meters) tall.
Trump did not accompany his digitally altered Mount Rushmore picture with any commentary of his own. However, the post gained traction across social media platforms, with many users slamming Trump’s AI photo.
Journalist and commentator Mehdi Hasan reacted to Trump’s picture on X, formerly Twitter. He wrote, “If any other president had done this, it would have been a massive controversy and talking point. With our current weirdo, it has just been normalized.”

One user said, “So ugly. The ego of this man knows no bounds.” It is really hard to not hate him more every day. He is a stain on humanity and our country,” another upset user’s tweet read.
A few others took a jab at Trump and referenced recent reports of him seemingly dozing off at meetings. “Of course he did – a lot of things wrong with this but the main one is that his eyes are open,” wrote one netizen. Another person posted another AI photo of Trump’s likeness on Mount Rushmore, but with his eyes closed.
If Trump is going to deface another National Monument with his sagging mug, at least make it an accurate representation. #Donsnorleone 💤 pic.twitter.com/hJIXIKB5Ko

The Republicans Against Trump account on X said, “Trump just posted an image of himself on Mount Rushmore. He also posted an image of a ‘Trump Peace Prize’ medal. Bro is still melting down over getting booted from the Kennedy Center. SAD!”
Meanwhile, commentator Harry Sisson reacted to Trump’s AI slop and wrote, “Trump has been posting all day, nonstop on social media. He’s uploaded stuff like AI images of him as a basketball player for the NY Knicks, his face on Mount Rushmore or even suggesting he should perform at the America 250 event instead of artists. This man is unwell.”

The idea of President Trump’s face being added to Mount Rushmore has been the subject of discussion for years. In 2018, Kristi Noem reportedly told the Argus Leader that the monument came up during her first visit to the Oval Office, when she was a gubernatorial candidate for South Dakota, reported E&E News.
“He said, ‘Kristi, come on over here. Shake my hand,'” Noem said. “I shook his hand, and I said, ‘Mr. President, you should come to South Dakota sometime. We have Mount Rushmore.’ And he goes, ‘Do you know it’s my dream to have my face on Mount Rushmore?'”
“I started laughing,” she said, adding, “he wasn’t laughing, so he was totally serious.“
This is Fake News by the failing @nytimes & bad ratings @CNN. Never suggested it although, based on all of the many things accomplished during the first 3 1/2 years, perhaps more than any other Presidency, sounds like a good idea to me! https://t.co/EHrA9yUsAw

Two years later, Trump publicly denied a report claiming that the White House was exploring ways to add his likeness to the iconic granite monument. However, while rejecting the report, he also appeared to endorse the idea.
“Never suggested it although, based on all of the many things accomplished during the first 3 1/2 years, perhaps more than any other Presidency, sounds like a good idea to me!” Trump wrote on X (then Twitter) in August 2020.
