In what authorities described as a case of “shocking violence,” a British mother and her boyfriend were convicted of murdering her two-year-old toddler, who suffered a catastrophic head injury and s*xual abuse.

Alexandra Walker, 25, and her boyfriend, Harrison Simpson, 22, were found guilty of murdering Walker’s daughter, Isabelle Rose Welsh, following a trial at Teesside Crown Court on Tuesday, according to a local report by Teesside Live.

On September 13, 2025, emergency responders were dispatched to the family’s home in Thornaby, Teesside, after receiving a 999 emergency call. They found Isabelle at the foot of the stairs without a pulse and gravely ill. According to prosecutors, the toddler suffered a “massive head injury” before collapsing.

According to prosecutors, Walker delayed calling 999 despite allegedly searching online for “why would my toddler be bleeding” and “what should I do if my child has blood in his stool?” Instead, she reportedly called her stepfather, who instructed her to contact emergency services. Prosecutors also alleged that Walker smoked a cigarette in the kitchen while Isabelle lay critically injured.

When paramedics arrived, they found bruises across the girl’s body, including on her head, neck, abdomen, back and genital area. Isabelle was reportedly cold to the touch and also had blood in her nappy and vomit on her face.

 

Prosecutors also presented medical evidence during the trial showing Isabelle had suffered 21 broken bones, including a fractured leg, when she arrived at the nearby hospital. Doctors concluded that the catastrophic head injury caused the child’s death, according to Sky News.

Prosecutors also presented camera footage that showed Walker reacting calmly while her critically injured daughter lay dying, according to the BBC.

Simpson reportedly met Walker through a dating app six weeks before Isabelle’s death. Jurors found him guilty of s*xually assaulting the toddler on multiple occasions before her death, in addition to murder and child cruelty. Walker was convicted of murder and cruelty.

Following the verdict, Crown Prosecutor Kirstie Devine described the defendant’s treatment of Isabelle as “appalling” and said the case involved “shocking violence.”

Detective Chief Inspector Steve Chatterton said in a statement, “Isabelle suffered catastrophic injuries at the hands of the very people who should have loved her, cared for her, and protected her. Her life was cruelly taken in the most tragic and heartbreaking circumstances.”

“She should have had a lifetime of opportunities ahead of her. Instead, Walker and Simpson robbed Isabelle of her future and deprived her family of watching her grow up and achieve those milestones that so many take for granted.”

“Isabelle should have had her whole life ahead of her, but she was taken from us in the most heartbreaking way,” BBC quoted Isabelle’s family as saying in a statement following Tuesday’s court hearing. “While today’s verdict cannot undo the pain caused or bring Isabelle back, it does mean justice has been served. We will remember Isabelle forever.”
