Wisconsin Senator Tammy Baldwin has extended her condolences to the family of Alex Jeffery Pretti, the 37-year-old intensive care nurse who was fatally shot by a border patrol agent in Minneapolis. Taking the Senate floor, Tammy acted as a messenger for the family and friends of Alex Pretti, who are awaiting justice. Tammy believes that the Trump administration could have handled the situation more delicately and alleged that the government lied about the killing.
“We also watched the Trump administration’s reaction to this tragedy. Instead of turning down the temperature, the Trump administration threw gasoline on the fire and lied to the American people.” Senator Baldwin said on the Senate floor on Wednesday. “In the hours after Alex Pretti was shot 10 times by federal agents, the Trump administration, without knowing the facts, said that Alex was ‘a domestic terrorist’, ‘an assassin’, and ‘somebody who tried to murder ICE agents.’ Those are despicable lies.”

Tammy, a member of the Democratic Party, spoke about Alex’s close ones, consistently trying their best to revive his name. She mentions that they have reached out to her in an attempt to let the world know who he really was. She urged to keep Alex’s memories alive and not perceive him as someone the Trump administration portrays him to be to “fit their narrative.”
Sen. Baldwin called for Republicans not to stay silent and Congress not to endorse these masked and armed agents and to take action against Kristi Noem, the Secretary of Homeland Security, who has been condoning ICE’s lawlessness and terror parade.
Tammy ended her speech, reminding everyone that Alex was not “a threat.” She also assured that she will do everything in her power to ensure Alex and his family get justice. She demanded that the Trump administration take accountability and not grant total immunity to ICE agents terrorizing citizens.
This chaos has to end. ICE is making our communities less safe, families are scared, and now, another American, Alex Pretti, is dead. pic.twitter.com/mLivrtPVIr

Friends and family describes Alex as a kind-hearted gentleman who was “intelligent and deeply passionate.” Pretti attended Preble High School and later worked as a nurse for the United States Department of Veterans Affairs. He was a valued member of his community and deeply connected to his family. In a conversation with the Associated Press, his sister revealed, “He touched more lives than he probably realized.”
Pretti was a harsh critic of the current government and ICE’s raids. He was observing and peacefully protesting against the government. Videos from the scene suggest Pretti got into a scuffle with ICE agents while shielding another bystander. He put himself between the fellow protestor and an ICE agent and was pepper-sprayed and held on the ground before being shot 10 times by an agent. The two agents involved in his murder was recently placed on leave.
