Renowned physicist Stephen Hawking is hospitalized and “very ill,” according to a report published by the BBC . Hawking is currently undergoing some type of medical tests at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, the network says.

Hawking, 67, suffers from motor neuron disease. He requires a wheelchair for mobility and a voice synthesizer to speak. It’s not clear whether Hawking’s hospitalization is directly related to his condition.
Stephen Hawking is a professor at Cambridge University’s Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics. He wrote the bestselling book A Brief History of Time and created the “Hawking radiation” theory about black holes’ emissions of thermal radiation.
