A South Carolina man, John Alexander Bellue, stands accused of posting a death threat aimed at killing President Donald Trump. Bellue wrote on X about his plan to silence Trump forever and put him six feet under.
He posted in September 2025, “@realDonaldTrump, you have the right to remain silent. I’m gonna kill you in the most brutal way possible.” Facing two federal counts, he was indicted last week on one count of threatening the president and one count of using interstate communications to send his threat.
Federal prosecutors said in the indictment that Bellue “knowingly and willfully” threatened “to take the life of and to inflict bodily harm upon the President of the United States” on or about Sept. 7, 2025, in South Carolina. The case is being handled by the US Attorney’s Office for the District of South Carolina.
There are some really stupid people out there that think they can get away with threatening our president or any president for that matter. They seem to think that our Freedom of Speech protects you from everything you say. https://t.co/3KuIXqOhDx

According to the attorney’s office, Bellue’s X post had an intent to harm the president and was taken seriously. In recent months, there have been different assassination attempts targeting Trump. A lone gunman, Cole Tomas Allen, 31, opened fire at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on April 25, 2026. The gunshots were fired near the security screening area.
The most recent one was an open fire near the White House on May 23, where a gunman was on the west side of the building and started firing. He was a 21-year-old Maryland resident, Nasire Best, who started firing at a checkpoint near 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue.
Meanwhile, Trump was in the White House. The Secret Service agents returned fire and killed the suspect. In 2025, Best was detained by the Secret Service when he flagged down agents and threatened them. He also made his way into restricted areas, posing a security threat. For now, it’s unclear if he was working alone or had accomplices. After Best was taken down by the Secret Service, Trump posted on Truth Social.

– Interstate communication of a threat to injure pic.twitter.com/dH7ozPIVUy— Rick from NC (@civilrightstest) May 25, 2026
He wrote, “Thank you to our great Secret Service and Law Enforcement for the swift and professional action taken this evening against a gunman near the White House, who had a violent history and possible obsession with our country’s most cherished structure.”
Bellue allegedly posted the threat while Trump was attending the US Open tennis tournament in New York City. Court records reviewed by prosecutors did not show prior criminal convictions for Bellue.
