South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford has publicly admitted to having an affair with a woman from Argentina, after he disappeared for 5 days and family and the media speculated about his whereabouts.
Governor Sanford said the following about his affair with the Argentinian woman in a statement earlier today:
“I have been unfaithful to my wife. I developed a relationship with what started as a dear dear friend. First and foremost, I apologize to my wife and my four boys. I have made decisions that have hurt and will continue to hurt them, and for that I’m sincerely sorry. Jenny has stood by me through campaign after campaign, through hard time after hard time, and neither she nor the boys deserve this. Please offer them your prayers.”
Governor Mark Sanford also announced his resignation as chairman of the Republican Governors Association, but did not say whether he was considering resigning as governor of South Carolina.
