Seattle Seahawks were the unlikely winners of Superbowl 48, in a David vs. Goliath win over the Denver Broncos. The money that changed hands in the unusually slanted game was epic and impressive. There were cheers and tears in the knockout and shut out that the Broncos faced at the hands of the first time win for the Seahawks.

Oddly enough, the same two teams were chosen to face off once again Thursday night. This will be the first of two preseason games with the Broncos. The good fortune and weather was not with the Seahawks this time. After intense lightning and a 46-minute delay, the Seattle Seahawks lost their first preseason game in a closer match-up with the Broncos 21-16.

The stakes were smaller and the Seahawks were as well. According to Seattle Times, the Seattle Seahawks were sans 17 players . The Seattle newspaper reported:

“Most are not here, including running back Marshawn Lynch . All are not playing due to either injury or simply precautionary reasons — or in Lynch’s case because he showed up to training camp a week ago today and is not yet in football shape according to coach Pete Carroll . The others who will sit it out tonight are: WR David Gilreath , S Kam Chancellor , CB Akeem Auguste , S Eric Pinkins , LB Mike Taylor , LB Bruce Irvin , LB Malcolm Smith , LB Bobby Wagner , LB Kevin Pierre-Louis , LB Korey Toomer, C Max Unger, DT Jimmy Staten , OL Russell Okung , OL James Carpenter , WR Kevin Norwood and DT Jordan Hill .”

It was a neck and neck game with the Seahawks and Broncos exchanging leads. Early on, it was the was the Broncos who held the first lead of 7-0. Then, According to SBNation :

“The Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos are in a delay after a lightning storm in the area forced a stoppage of the game. Fans and players were advised to take cover and the game was suspended until the area is clear.”

Reports state, the lightning strikes and the ensuing storm, were within eight miles away at the time. At the end of the second half and after the storm break, Seattle pulled ahead with a 10-7 lead. According to Bleacher Report , the penalties were quite notable throughout the game, as they stated:

“While Wilson and Christine Michael made some nice plays, the real hero of the drive was that little yellow flag. Denver committed four penalties on the drive—two of which extended and another that put the Seahawks on the 1-yard line for Michael’s touchdown.”

The Broncos put up their highlights, as the winning team, up on Twitter.

The Seahawks posted highlights on their website . The Seahawks and Broncos will meet again on September 21, and that game will be on Seattle’s home turf. Will this and perhaps a few other player returns make the difference in that games outcome for the Seahawks? What are your thoughts?
