A 38-year-old Northern California driver identified as Coleman Guy Rocheleau has been taken into custody after he allegedly carried out a violent shooting spree spanning 47 miles of the state’s iconic Napa Valley that caused a woman’s death. According to the reports, the defendant initially fled the scene, but authorities managed to chase him down.
According to SFGATE, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said it received a 911 call on May 22 reporting shots being fired at around 8:30 a.m. in the State Highway 29 and Kelseyville Riviera area. However, the suspect had already fled from the scene by the time the responding deputies arrived at the scene, according to the department’s official press release.

However, as the morning went on, the sheriff’s office started receiving additional calls reporting shootings related to road rage. Nearly two hours after the initial shooting, the Lake County department received calls from the colleagues of the Napa Valley County Sheriff’s Office who informed them that a woman from the 1000 block of Dunaweal Lane in Calistoga had also called.
Napa Valley County sheriff’s spokesman Henry Wofford said that she had reportedly filed a complaint claiming that she had been struck in the face by gunfire from a driver. The health condition of the woman remains unknown. Wofford said that the deputies analyzed automatic license plate reader cameras in the area and discovered a vehicle that matched the suspect’s description, which was driving on Highway 29 in St. Helena.
When Napa County deputies attempted to follow the vehicle, the 38-year-old allegedly sped away, leading authorities on a pursuit through Napa Valley. The chase succeeded after the deputies arrested the driver through a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle from advancing. Following his arrest, Rocheleau told detectives that there was a third victim in Kelseyville.
In response, the officials were sent to the 10,000 block of Terrance Way in Kelseyville Riviera for a welfare check, where the woman’s body was found. The woman’s identity has not been revealed as authorities await notifying her family. The suspect was taken to Lake County, where he is currently imprisoned on a $2 million bail while he awaits murder and felony torture charges.
“This investigation remains active and ongoing. At this time, there is no known ongoing threat to the community,” the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said.
The SFGATE report also notes that, according to the Contra Costa County court documents, in 2017, Rocheleau was convicted of harming a domestic partner and falsely reporting a bomb.
