Arizona cops received a phone call from 32-year-old Nathaniel Gotham on Saturday, in which he confessed that he had stabbed his wife. Officers arrived on the scene and began administering aid to the woman, who was bleeding profusely. She would be hospitalized for her wounds and would survive them. Gotham revealed that he had ‘snapped’ and stabbed his wife. She had 16 visible stab wounds in her back and additional wounds on her limbs, neck, and face, as stated in the police report.
When police searched the premises of the house, they retrieved a stake knife, which was seemingly used in the crime. Gotham revealed that his motivation for the stabbing was to hurt his wife and get her to stop talking. A lot of the anger towards the wife seemed to have been aggravated by a long-standing grudge, as Gotham had reportedly told his wife, while stabbing her, that he felt that he “wasted the best years of his life” and ended up marrying the “wrong woman.”

The Arizona couple had been together for fourteen years and had no children. They had been married for the last four years. After the incident, according ot the police, Gotham made two phone calls. He tried to reach his mother-in-law to apologize to her and then called his own mother to let her know that she would likely not be seeing him again. He appeared in court the following Sunday and was charged with attempted murder. The judge set a $500, 000 bond for Gotham. He is set to appear in court again on Friday.
It’s the impulse control and dehumanization that’s so scary.

Gotham had called 911 by himself, confessing that he was the one to do it. “‘I did it, it’s all my fault,'” he said to the operator as units were dispatched to his location. There has been a lot of chatter about the case online since it broke, with users largely blaming Gotham for not being able to control himself. Further, wider issues about male-on-female domestic abuse also came to the forefront through the conversations under the post that reported this.
One user said, “Where is that marvelous impulse control Nathaniel is supposed to have? That high IQ must’ve been glitching when she was talking.” Another one said, “He shouldn’t be let out, but I’m sure he’ll make bond in no time and be back on the street as a menace to society.” Another one said, “But, really, a $500,000 bond. Why in the hell would you give this person a bone? So that he can go and finish the job. Amerikkkan injustice system.”
The comment section under the post also had some that made light of the matter, and yet more that felt the need to troll those who were supportive of the woman.
