Perfect No More, Packers Lose to Chiefs

The quest for perfection has come to a crushing end. The Green Bay Packers lost 19-14 to the Kansas City Chiefs, who despite having just fired their head coach and starting a new quarterback in Kyle Orton were able to bring their A game.

Kyle Orton threw for 299 yards to out perform Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers, and were able to put a stop to Green Bay’s 19 game winning streak. Green Ba also failed to secure home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. They can still wrap up their final two games against Detroit and Chicago and finish with only one loss, but this one will sting for quite a while.

Green Bay had the opportunity to go to the Super Bowl undefeated, which hasn’t been done since the 2003 Patriots.

Ryan Succop kicked four field goals for Kansas City (6-8), which had lost five of its last six games and fired coach Todd Haley last Monday. Jackie Battle added a short touchdown plunge with 4:53 left in the game, points that came in handy when Rodgers led one last scoring drive.

For the entire first half of the game it seemed as if neither team wanted to win so badly. The game was slow and the drives labored.

“Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson was hit twice with offensive pass interference, Rodgers was harassed by the Chiefs’ weak pass rush, and Green Bay wound up making five first downs.” according to ABC News.
