A Pennsylvania school has taken a drastic step in the face of steep budget cuts. It has decided to put itself up for sale on E-bay according to Fox News.
The Learning Center in Langhorne, Pennsylvania wants you to buy their school. The auction listing has a starting bid of $600,000 dollars and is listed as “pre-owned” and “Slightly used. The auction also states that the winner will not own the building, which is owned by the Neshaminy School District, but they will get a whole bunch of fun stuff including naming rights, free pizzas, a personalized school mug and the commencement address at the school’s graduation.
The auction also says the winner will be able to sleep better at night knowing they helped by “delivering an education to a group of kids who could really use it,”
Learning Center Principal JoAnn Holland is praying that a wealthy individual decides to step up and help the school out.
Holland said,
“I know it’s crazy, with the good The Learning Center does, it’s crazier not to do it.”
Recent Graduate Casey Young was the one who suggested that the school put up the auction. His father had, at one point, put his whole family on E-Bay to raise some money. E-Bay terminated the auction because it is illegal to sell human beings but it raised a ton of awareness for poverty.
Steve Young, Casey’s father told the AP,
“We did it as a lark. Casey seems to have turned this into something that will result in something positive.”
Neshaminy officials did not immediately return requests for comment Monday. The school district has already endured two teachers strikes this year and the Board of Education says they just can’t cave to the teacher’s demands.
