A wedding in Ohio became the most memorable day for the family and the guests, but for all the wrong reasons.
A band of brothers beefing with the family crashed the wedding reception on Friday, August 21, around 8.50 p.m. at the La Centre Banquet Facility in Westlake, about 14 miles from Cleveland.
The attack soon escalated into a massive fight, sending attendees into panic. One of the victims told the police, “We were dancing, and four brothers jumped on us.”
Police responded to multiple 911 calls about the disturbance when at least 40 people rushed outside the reception hall in panic. The fight had escalated to the parking lot, with many engaging in verbal as well as physical fights outside the venue.

The situation became worse when a man identified as Raed Mahmoud Sulaiman grabbed a butter knife and started attacking the guests. The video has been released by the police showing him charging at the guests. In defense, a wedding guest picked up a chair and threw it at him. The fight injured two people, hospitalizing them for non-threatening injuries.
According to the officials, the two families had a history of hostility towards each other. The specific reason for the attack is still under investigation. Sulaiman, 46, was arrested and charged with assault, including panic. Since he discarded the butter knife, he was also charged with tampering with evidence.
Two other men were also arrested and charged. Abdallah Wahdan, 48, was accused of threatening several guests at the wedding and charged with aggravated menacing. Ali Wahdan, 47, is charged with violating a court order that protected family members attending the wedding.

Westlake Police Captain Jerry Vogel said, “We knew violence already happened from independent witnesses who called us, who said people were bloody, so we know there’s already violence going on.”
He further added, “People who don’t normally get together and have hostilities against each other got together for whatever reason. In this case, it was somebody’s wedding. I don’t know all the relationships that were involved, but when they got together, everything came back to the surface.”
Vogel also warned: “Don’t spoil someone else’s wedding. Now those people are unfortunately always going to be remembered as the wedding where there was a melee and fights involved. They’re not going to remember the good parts of it. They’re going to remember the bad parts.”
