NYC schools close in anticipation of Snowpocalypse 2

This past weekend’s giant snowstorm, alternately nicknamed “snowpocalypse,” “snowmaggedon,” or “snowtorious B.I.G.” passed over much of the New York metro area, dumping up to three feet of snow on D.C. and Maryland instead.

But on this sunny afternoon that’s a balmy forty-something degrees, New York City schools have taken the preemptive step of closing tomorrow in anticipation of a large snowfall in the area:

“It’s never something we do lightly of easily, but based on the information we now have, and the fact that we’re confident that we’re not going to get much new information between now and tomorrow morning, this was the sensible and prudent thing to do,” said Schools Chancellor Joel Klein.

Between five and fourteen inches of snow are expected in the New York City region, with blizzard like conditions expected. The snowfall is likely to be heaviest between noon and 5pm, a period in which most city children travel home from school. A list of closures so far can be found here.
