A mom of a seven-year-old was stabbed to death by her suitor at a Brooklyn, New York, park.
Shakeema Davis, 30, was repeatedly stabbed in the head and body inside Lincoln Terrace–Arthur S. Somers Park at Rochester Avenue and Eastern Parkway on Tuesday, August 18, at around 12.41 a.m.
She had organized a barbecue at the Crown Heights park when a violent man she had gone on just one date with stabbed her.
According to the New York police, the man got angry when she turned him down for a second date and his advances. So he stabbed her in front of her seven-year-old son and her guests at the barbecue.

Davis was barbecuing when her killer showed up. There were about 15 to 20 others present at the scene. According to Davis’s mother, Adra Pegues, she had gone on one date with the man and then refused the second date.
She told the Daily News, “He wasn’t her type. Some people won’t take no for an answer. She went out on a date and felt, ’ Oh no, not that one.’” The grieving 60-year-old added, “I don’t have the words for him. He was a coward. A weak man. People like that aren’t supposed to be on earth.” She told the news outlet her daughter enjoyed grilling outside.
That day, “She took her little wagon and set up her little tent. She was going to grill for her son and her best friend. She usually grills steak or chicken. She likes steak grilled over charcoal.”
One of Davis’ long-term friends who was at the barbecue tried to save her. Freddie told a news outlet, “I took my shirt off and tied it around her to compress her wounds. I tried to save her, and she took her last three breaths in my arms.”
She was rushed to Brookdale Hospital Medical Center, where doctors pronounced her dead after she succumbed to her injuries. The suspect allegedly fled the scene. Freddie had a message for him: “You know who you are. You can’t run, and you can’t hide.”
NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny explained the events: “He shows up to the location. Throughout the course of the evening, everybody’s hanging out, drinking, smoking, and listening to music. Our eventual stabber keeps soliciting her—our victim—for s—. She keeps saying no. They’re arguing. It’s verbal. It turns physical.”
Davis threw a drink at the man. As a result, he started to assault her. She picked up a barbecue to get him away from her. That’s when he pulled out a knife and stabbed her thrice.

Kenny further added, “We have interviewed two or three people that are telling us they saw the incident and did try to apprehend the perp and hold him for police, but the guy kept swinging the knife at the ground.” There was a person of interest, but the investigators did not have probable cause to arrest him. Investigators also identified the car he used to flee the scene. This is a developing story, and the investigation remains ongoing.
