New York Jets to do list

The New York Jets used the NFL draft to address the age issue along their defensive line. They used two picks on Defensive Tackles, but surprisingly enough they did not add a true pass rusher to the mix. The only issue I see there is second round pick Kenrick Ellis is facing a felony charge, so that makes him a risky pick. I am also a little concerned they did not draft an OLB prospect, so when free agency begins OLB will likely be among the positions they are targeting. Since DE Shaun Ellis’ locker was cleared out before the reporters arrived at the end of last season, we can assume he will not be back, making DE a position of need in free agency.

When I look at the Jets depth chart, 2011 draft class, and free agent list, I see that they have an awful lot of QB’s on the roster. Mark Brunell was brought in mentor Mark Sanchez. Since that job is not done quite yet I think he stays. They also drafted Greg McElroy and have Kellen Clemons is a free agent. No way can the Jets afford to keep all of these QB’s. It seems likely Clemons is out, and one other QB will not be brought back.

The most glaring hole in the roster comes at Wide Receiver where the Jets have three free agents of their won to sort out. They did draft Jeremy Kerley in the fifth round, but we can hardly think that is the only move they will make. I think they will go after a high profile veteran free agent, and bring back one or tow of their own free agents.

The other concerned here is what to do with the defensive secondary, but that will likely come after the offensive needs have been restocked.
