Neil deGrass Tyson is well-respected within the scientific community because of his ability to so elegantly and easily explain the concept of astrophysics and other areas of the scientific field to people both young and old. On Wednesday however the famed scientists was inspired by the MLB All-Star Game to talk about the sport of baseball.

Tyson’s comments went from the elegant:

“Hand-stitched balls, rubbing mud, leather mitts, wooden bats, pine tar. Baseball: a game untouched by modern materials.”

To the more scientific:

“FYI: Laws of physics show that it takes twice as much energy to throw a baseball 100 mph than it does to throw one at 70 mph.”

As expected Neil deGrass Tyson made sure that the topic he was talking about, even if it was America’s pastime fit in well with his true love of science.

It wasn’t all seriousness on Tyson’s part though, he did cite the Cartoon Law of Physics at one point:

“About that slow pitch: BugsBunny can throw a slower one. He’s subject instead to Cartoon Laws of Physics http://bit.ly/3v7hcN “

For fan’s of the scientists work here are a few more of the Twitter messages he chose to share with his followers, take a quick read and leave us a comment with your favorite Neil deGrass Tyson twitter comment:

Slowest pitch in Baseball to reach catcher? 30 mph, thrown at 45-deg angle. Any slower and at any other angle hits the ground

Here’s another:

You can play baseball on the airless Moon, but only if you find a way not to suffocate if you don’t care about curve balls.

Here’s my personal favorite tweet on the day:

Does it disturb anyone else that “The Los Angeles Angels” baseball team translates directly to “The The Angels Angels”?

That’s what I love about Neil deGrasse Tyson, he can go from the physics of a throw to joking around about the translation of the Los Angeles Angels franchise name.
