Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh has been handed down a two-game suspension following an incident where he apparently stomped the arm of Green Bay’s Evan Dietrich-Smith during a match-up between the two clubs on Thanksgiving Day.
The incident – which resulted in Suh’s ejection from the game – came just weeks after the 24-year-old met face-to-face with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell in an effort to gain a better understanding of the league’s policy on illegal hits.
As reported by ESPN, the suspension, which prohibits Suh from practicing with the Lions or even showing up at the team’s practice facilities, will force the former first-team All-Pro selection to miss Sunday night’s (Dec. 3) game at New Orleans and a Dec. 11 home game against Minnesota. In addition, Ndamukong’s suspension will cost him at least $164,000 in missed game checks, and the Lions could tack on an additional $25,000 penalty, reports USA Today.
According to the Detroit News, Suh has three days to appeal the suspension.
The NFL pointed out in a statement that if he does appeal, “an expedited hearing and decision would take place this week in advance of this weekend’s games,” giving the pro-bowler a chance to play in Sunday night’s match-up against the Saints if the ruling was overturned.
