Seif al-Islam Gadhafi, the chief information officer for Moammar Gadhafi was captured this week and will be tried in Libya rather than being handed over to the International Criminal Court.

Speaking about the decision to try Gadhafi on home soil the countries minister Mahmoud Shammam said the Libyan people want to see him tried at home on the grounds where he took so many innocent lives.

Seif al-Islam had a warrant out for his arrested from the International Criminal Court on charges of crimes against humanity.

Speaking to the Associated Press Shammam said:

“The ICC is just a secondary court, and the people of Libya will not allow Seif al-Islam to be tried outside.”

In the meantime ICC prosecutor Luis Moreno Ocampo is traveling to Libya to hold talks with the countries National Transitional Council to ensure that the former heir apparent to Moammar Gadhafi receives a fair trial.

The Human Rights Watch want the former spy chief to be handed over after the apparent killings in custody of his father and brother on Oct. 20, events they demonstrated as “particular cause for concern.”

Seif al-Islam was found hiding out in the southern Libyan desert on Saturday morning by revolutionary fighters. Those fighters then flew him back to their home town of Zintan.

It could take a while for an official trial to begin, in the meantime revolutionary fighters continue to hunt down the remaining members of Moammar Gadhafi’s inner-circle, all of whom went into hiding as their regime began to fall.
