Minnesota Vikings fire Brad Childress

One part of the Minnesota Vikings 2010 struggles has been removed. It was announced this morning that Brad would no longer be leading the team and that Defensive Coordinator Leslie Frazier will take over the team on an interim basis. The move was made on the heels of a ugly 31-3 loss to the Green Bay Packers in Green Bay. That loss dropped the Vikings to a 3-7 record for the year.

For Childress, he is free of a very bad situation, and he gets to collect 6.6 million dollars over the next two years. I would seriously doubt a quick return to coaching as many are down on him for first creating the bad situation in Minnesota, and then complaining it about in public. Make no mistake about it, Childress had a hand in bringing Brett Favre back, and that is not to mention the mess he made over the Randy Moss incident.

Let us be clear here, the Vikings still have a problem. That problem is #4 Brett Favre. He is either to old or not engaged enough in what is going on to seriously lead this team on the field. The Vikings have done a poor job using their key players and all of that has got to change. The balance of the 2010 season should be an audition for coaches and players for 2011.

If I were in charge Favre would not be the starting QB as of right now. I would allow Tavaris Jackson the final six games of his season to prove he belongs on this roster. Either way it doesn’t look like either of these men will return to the team, and the team will have to use the draft and free agency to fix their problems at the QB position.
