Oklahoma residents are continuing to feel the effects of last weeks earthquake as minor aftershocks have continues to hit the area, focusing mostly on the area just east of Oklahoma City.
According to the National Earthquake Information Center nine earthquakes have been experienced since last Monday.
Reports say each earthquake has been slight with a magnitude average of just 3.7, enough to make water glasses tremble without causing significant damage to structures.
While the aftershocks are hardly reason for concern Austin Holland, a research seismologist with the Oklahoma Geological Survey tells the NY Times :
“It’s certainly getting a lot of people’s attention.”
While Oklahoma is located in the middle of the North American tectonic plates those plates unlike California and even Japan do not rub together at the same rates, therefore earthquakes are far less common.
Earthquakes in the area last week were part of a large chain of events that has included 23 quakes in the last month, including one shock that registered at 5.6.
