Marco Rubio addressed concerns about racism against Indians in the United States. He noted that the US is a “welcoming country” and that it has been “enriched” by immigrants from all over the world.
US Secretary of State Rubio is currently on a four-day visit to India. During a joint press conference with India’s External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, in New Delhi, a journalist asked Rubio about alleged racist remarks targeting Indians in the United States. Without naming any individual, the reporter referred to a certain social media post, which they said had been “endorsed.”
According to Indian news portal Financial Express, the question seemingly referred to a certain social media post shared by President Donald Trump, which described India as a “h***hole.”
Trump later clarified himself and reportedly hailed India and its Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
Addressing the question at the recent press conference, Rubio said that he would consider the comments “very seriously,” adding that every country has “stupid people.”

“I’m sure there are stupid people here. There are stupid people in the United States who make dumb comments all the time,” Rubio said, further adding, “The United States is a very welcoming country. Our nation has been enriched by people who come to our country from all over the world,” he said.
Rubio also said immigrants have significantly contributed to the US economy and that they have assimilated into the American way of life.
Rubio, 54, then agreed with the journalist and acknowledged that the Indian community in the US has also contributed significantly to its economy. “I accept what you just said about the contribution that Indians have made in the US economy, over USD 20 billion. We want that number to continue to increase,” he said.
Rubio also addressed concerns about the recent reforms that have impacted Indians immigrating to the US on work and study visas, saying the measures were not directed specifically at India but were intended to serve US national interests.
Rubio’s remarks came during his visit aimed at strengthening US-India ties and addressing issues including trade, technology cooperation, energy security and strategic partnerships.
Rubio’s comments quickly gained traction across social media platforms, with many US citizens vehemently opposing his remarks.
“We don’t want Indians and we’re not stupid! We will only vote for REMIGRATION! Rubio sure looks stupid today,” said one person on X, formerly Twitter.

“We move closer to the left every day of this administration,” another user’s comment read.
“Only the British colonial empire became enriched by India. Now, Americans are having to deal with their former Indian vassals. Rubio’s ‘stupid’ remark was entirely irresponsible,” a third person tweeted.
Another person chimed in, adding, “The Democrats wore out that whole ‘racist’ label as a means of control. Sorry, Rubio, you’re going to have to find a new whip to crack when we’re just saying things we notice.”
Another netizen claimed that Rubio should change his stance as soon as possible ahead of the 2028 presidential elections. “@marcorubio this is a massive losing take. Turn course immediately. You’ll be 48 if you promise to get rid of them, amongst others. Sincerely, actual Americans,” the tweet read

“I don’t want to live with foreigners, and I shouldn’t have to. America is for Americans, not Indians,” yet another netizen stated.
