Kate Middleton has been making a whole round of solo appearances since February, and now the Duchess of Cambridge was spotted on Thursday going out for tea at London’s posh Fortnum & Mason store along with the Duchess of Cornwall and Queen Elizabeth II.
The royal trio were said to be all smiles during their girls day out in Piccadilly, with the three being greeted by hundreds of well-wishers and even a jazz band.
The three generations of royals each showed up dressed in shades of blue, but their styles were markedly different. ABC News reports:
“The queen donned her typical two-piece coat dress with military-style rows of buttons and her signature hat while Middleton stepped out in an above-the-knee tweed coat dress by designer Missoni and gray suede heels by Rupert Sanderson. She also chose to accent her coat with daffodils to mark St. David’s Day. Camilla wore a long, navy coat with white stripes by Bruce Oldfield.”
The seemingly regular outing was a rare event, being one of the few times that Middleton was spotted out in public with Queen Elizabeth II and Camilla, the wife of Prince Charles. The event also marked the first time Middleton was seen with the queen without her husband, Prince William, present.
“The Queen is actually taken Kate under her wing…and that’s very different because that did not happen within the first year of marriage for Diana or for Fergie,” Michelle Tan, senior editor for People magazine, told “Good Morning America,” referring to the former wives of Princes Charles and Prince Andrew, respectively.
