Josh Hamilton , outfielder for the Texas Rangers, had a very impressive four home run game against the Orioles on Tuesday night, cementing his name in the record books as one of only sixteen players to hit four homers in a single game.
Hamilton’s four home runs were all two-run drives, and he went through three different pitchers to do it. Josh’s first two home runs were landed in the first and third innings, with the final two coming from the seventh and eighth innings.
As if that wasn’t already impressive enough, Hamilton managed to score a double in the fifth ending, which put him at eighteen bases for the whole game–a single-game American League record, and one shy of matching the Major League record set in 2002 by Shawn Green.
The last player to manage four home runs in a single game was Carlos Delgado, who made his achievement on September 25, 2003 while playing for Toronto against Tampa Bay.
In an interview with ESPN after the game, Hamilton said that he didn’t do anything special in Tuesday night’s game–he just made solid contact with the ball.
“I don’t have to create power,” he said in the interview. “I just need to make solid contact. You know what? It worked. I just have to put a good swing on it, and it will go.”
