Two Indiana employees, Tashshavviyon Stinson and Andrea Williamson, at Kindergate Developmental Child Care Center in Evansville, are facing felony charges. Police noted the abuse occurred in May.
Stinson, 29, has been charged with battery on a person younger than 14 and child neglect, according to the Evansville Police Department.
According to Law and Crime, police stated Stinson placed the child in a closet while she left the child care center to go to a liquor store. The child also alleged that Stinson struck them with a broom, denied them food during the day, and refused to provide a blanket during nap time, Sgt. Anthony Aussieker of the Evansville Police Department told reporters.
According to the police report, Stinson confessed to having a history of alcohol abuse. Stinson’s arrest report mentioned that she often consumed “shots” before she came to work. It also notes that she is struggling with depression and suicidal thoughts. At the time of writing, Stinson is booked into Vanderburgh County Jail on a bond of $25,000.
Williamson, 47, was arrested on July 23 for failing to report the abuse, as is mandated by Indiana‘s reporting laws. The authorities charged her with the neglect of a dependent.
Investigators later recovered surveillance footage that appeared to corroborate several of the child’s allegations.
Sgt. Aussieker reflected on the incident, speaking with WFIE.
He said, “It’s terrifying. You know when we as parents kind of give over some of that care to our children, you know, that’s our most prized possession, so when we do that, we do it in the full faith that this person is going to take appropriate care of our child as we would if we were able to. I can’t imagine the fear, anger, the crazy emotions that family is feeling now.”
Clarifying the reason why Williamson was also arrested, Sgt. Aussieker explained, “You don’t get the out to say ‘I was waiting to see’; you are mandated to report immediately, especially in that role of a caregiver, but if you don’t feel comfortable in intervening because of safety or whatever your concerns might be, call 9-1-1.”
Currently, Williamson is out on bond and is expected to appear for her trial on Tuesday, July 28, 2026.
Kindergate Developmental Child Care Center, located on 623 Gum Street, has not released an official statement on the matter.
