Vice President JD Vance announced that the Department of Justice was launching an investigation into Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar, as part of President Donald Trump‘s anti-fraud efforts. Meanwhile, Omar said she is prepared to face the investigation and appeared unfazed by the decision.

According to CBS News, during a White House press conference, JD Vance said, ” We’re going to investigate it. We’re going to take a look at it. If we think that there’s a crime, we’re going to prosecute that crime,” further adding that it was something the DOJ was focusing on.

He didn’t go into the details about the apparent probe, insisting that he didn’t want to “prejudge an investigation.” Vance then referred to reports and discussions surrounding Omar’s personal life, including questions and speculation about her past relationships and marriage history. “It certainly seems like something fishy is there,” he claimed.

Now, a couple of days later, Omar has reacted to Vance’s accusations, saying, “He has been doing that for a while. If they want to indict me, let’s see what they’ve got.”

For the unfamiliar, per Fox 9 report, it has been alleged that Omar “married her brother” to commit an immigration fraud, though the claims have yet to be proven. On the other hand, the outlet states that when they reached out to her representative, they responded with a TMZ link in which the Minnesota representative can be seen ripping the Trump administration’s investigation against her. At the same time, she called them “racist.”

She said, “It’s ridiculous,” further insisting that if there had been anything to reveal, it likely would have come out by now. When asked about the accusations of marrying her brother, she called it a “very bigoted lie” and said that it was “disgusting.” Omar remains confident that she has nothing to fight against, as all the accusations against her are “fake.”

The 43-year-old assured that she would be willing to cooperate with the authorities while reiterating that she hadn’t done “anything criminal.” She said the allegations against her were fabricated and argued that such claims could not continue indefinitely, especially after years of scrutiny. The reporter then asked why she believed the issue was still being discussed.

She was quick to retort, “These people are disgusting, they believe in weird, creepy things, and that’s why they want to believe in this weird (accusation). That’s all I will say.” On a concluding note, Omar claimed that she was being targeted because they’re “racist”, “xenophobic,” and she “happened to be Muslim.”

While no evidence has been publicly presented against Omar, it was earlier this year, in March, that Vance previously said that Omar “definitely committed immigration fraud” during his appearance on Benny Johnson’s show.

The announcement appeared to come after Rep. Ilhan Omar updated her financial disclosure forms in April, which resulted in a lower recorded value of her assets. Earlier filings valued companies jointly owned by her husband, Tim Mynett, between $6 million and $30 million.

However, revised documents listed the couple’s combined assets at roughly $18,004 to $95,000, while the valuations for Mynett’s two companies were changed to “none.”
