A 31-year-old illegal alien from India, Aman Kumar, was arrested by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on May 13 in a hit-and-run case that left a 4-year-old boy injured. The hit-and-run incident occurred on April 28, 2026, near Peach and Florence avenues in Fresno, California, when the little boy was reportedly playing in a backyard before exiting through a gate and walking into a bike lane. According to reports, police were called around 08:00 PM. 

According to ABC News, at the time of the incident, the little boy’s father and uncle were working nearby. They didn’t realize the boy had left through a gate and was walking toward the road. In response, the boy was taken to the hospital, where he is undergoing treatment and is expected to survive. Kumar and his vehicle were found later.

Addressing the incident, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued an official statement confirming that the arrest was made on April 29 and that the defendant was charged with hit and run: death or injury. Surprisingly, sanctuary politicians released him illegally from prison. Later, on May 13, law enforcement took him into custody after he appeared in the California Superior Court, County of Fresno.

An update was also made on their official X account, along with a statement that said, “@ICEgov has arrested Aman Kumar, a criminal illegal alien from India who was RELEASED by California sanctuary politicians after causing a hit-and-run accident that injured a 4-year-old boy.”

It further expressed gratitude to the brave personnel of the ICE law enforcement, insisting that the “monster” could no longer hurt any more “innocent victims.”

Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis slammed the defendant, Kumar, stating, “This monster who almost killed a 4-year-old boy has been charged with a felony hit and run. Sanctuary politicians in California released this criminal illegal alien from jail back onto the streets. Thanks to the brave men and women of ICE law enforcement, this criminal illegal alien was arrested outside a criminal court.”

He further added that DHS was reaching out to California’s Governor Gavin Newsom and his fellow California sanctuary leaders supporting sanctuary policies to stop what he described as actions that could put communities at risk by allowing offenders back into society.

Per dhs.gov, Kumar, who entered the United States illegally in California in 2023, was released by the Biden Administration.

ICE Director Todd Lyons sent a letter to California Attorney General Rob Bonta in February requesting the state to prioritize public safety and cooperate with immigration detainer requests linked to more than 33,000 illegal immigrants in custody. ICE said California’s approach had led to thousands of releases since January, involving people accused of or convicted of crimes ranging from homicide and assault to drug and weapons offenses.

According to ICE, more than 33,000 people in California custody currently have active detainers, with cases linked to offenses including 399 homicides, 3,171 burglaries, 1,011 robberies, 8,380 drug crimes, 1,984 weapons violations, and 1,293 sexual offenses. California officials, however, have disputed parts of the federal claims and said the state already cooperates with ICE in certain cases involving serious or violent crimes.
