“I Can’t Hear You”—Donald Trump Slammed For Dodging Reporter’s Question as Texas Flood Death Toll Hits 82

Published on: July 6, 2025 at 11:58 PM ET

President Trump's response to reporters who questioned whether Texas' shockingly high death toll—which is now 82—had anything to do with federal cuts was, "I can't hear you."

When a reporter asked Donald Trump why some Democrats blamed the devastating death toll from the Texas floods on federal cuts, the president slammed her with four words. When reporters questioned whether DOGE cuts to FEMA contributed to the high death rate from this week’s abrupt flash floods in Central Texas, President Trump responded, “I can’t hear you.” Ten campers are missing close to a park, and as per the latest data, there are 82 confirmed dead.

As soon as the video of Trump looking away from questions about the catastrophe became viral, some on X said, “His ears don’t hear the truth.” According to some, he was shifting the responsibility to Democrats by the conduct.

Another disappointed viewer added, “I didn’t even listen to what he said. Because he’ll never ever even say what a tragedy. He’ll blame someone else.” A third person pointed out, “I can’t hear you? Then ask them to repeat it if you didn’t hear it. Instead, he just moves to someone else hoping they’ll ask a different question. What a loser.”

Sheriff Larry Leitha announced in the afternoon that searchers had discovered the death of 68 people, including 28 children, in Kerr County, Texas, which is home to the all-girls camp known as Camp Mystic. He promised to continue looking for victims of Friday’s flash floods until “everybody is found.” Local officials reported ten additional deaths in Travis, Burnet, Kendall, Tom Green, and Williamson counties. According to Texas Department of Public Safety Col. Freeman Martin, the death toll will undoubtedly increase over the coming days.

The governor issued a warning on Sunday that future rounds of intense rains that continue into Tuesday might result in more potentially fatal flooding, particularly in areas that are already saturated. Trump eventually issued emergency relief orders following a devastating weekend for many families. After so many terrible deaths, he posted his condolences on Truth Social.

“I just signed a Major Disaster Declaration for Kerr County, Texas, to ensure that our Brave First Responders immediately have the resources they need. These families are enduring an unimaginable tragedy, with many lives lost, and many still missing. The Trump Administration continues to work closely with State and Local Leaders. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem was on the ground yesterday with Governor Greg Abbott, who is working hard to help the people of his Great State. Our incredible U.S. Coast Guard, together with State First Responders, have saved more than 850 lives. GOD BLESS THE FAMILIES, AND GOD BLESS TEXAS!” Trump wrote.

TX officials are pointing fingers at the shitty Trump administration over his moronic budget cuts to the National Weather Service and lack of warnings and alerts over this flood that’s now killed at least 80 people including many children. Homes and cars were washed away by the swift, damaging floods, which surged 26 feet (8 meters) on the river in just 45 minutes before daylight on Friday. With fresh rain falling in central Texas on Sunday and flash flood watches still in effect, the threat was far from gone.

In order to find casualties and rescue individuals trapped in trees and in camps cut off by washed-out roadways, searchers deployed helicopters, boats, and drones. Over 850 individuals were saved in the first 36 hours, according to officials.
