A mom in Georgia was charged with reckless conduct after her 13-year-old daughter operated her SUV. The mom was dropping off kids at the Brumby Elementary School in Cobb County, Georgia, when the crash happened in the morning.

Her teen daughter ran her over, leaving her with severe injuries. On top of that, she was charged for letting her 13-year-old daughter operate her 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. According to the police department, a criminal warrant was issued against her after the incident. The Cobb County Magistrate Court Judge Charles Chesbro signed the charge warrant. Her bond was set at $300.

The accident endangered her and her daughter. It also put her other kids at risk, as they were inside the vehicle. Identified as 35-year-old Shumeka Johnson, her six-month-old daughter and four-year-old son were in the car. Letting her teen daughter get behind the wheel was irresponsible of her.

Her daughter first accelerated the vehicle, landing on her, and then she put the vehicle in reverse. This is when she crashed into another parked vehicle. That vehicle was empty, and no one else was injured.

Police revealed she ‘did endanger the bodily safety’ of the minor driver as there was no adult present in the car. According to an arrest affidavit obtained by East Cobb News, Shumeka Lana Johnson was struck by the SUV on April 22 while her minor daughter was behind the wheel.

It further read that the mother took part in reckless conduct “by consciously disregarding a substantial and unjustifiable risk that her act or omission would endanger the safety of said person and such disregard constituted a gross deviation from the standard of care which a reasonable person would have exercised in the situation.”

The vehicle crushed her, leaving her with severe injuries. Along with postpartum recovery, the accident has added more stress to her body. She hasn’t been able to work ever since and support her family. She has a long recovery ahead of her as she is learning to even walk again. Johnson will need ongoing surgeries to get better.

So, her friend, Angel Makey, started a GoFundMe crowdfunding page to support her financially. She described her as a self-employed stylist and a devoted wife and mother of five. The fundraiser has collected $1,800. Its goal is $5,000 so she can recover comfortably and not worry about finances. The money will go towards her hospital bills and childcare needs.
