A simple hangout between two cousins ended in tragedy after an adult man from Florida attacked his preteen cousin over a gaming console. Andrew Zagazeta, 24, stabbed his cousin following a heated argument over using a gaming console. The two allegedly argued over the suspect using the victim’s console without asking.
A verbal argument between cousins turned physical when the suspect pushed the 12-year-old victim, prompting their great-grandmother to step in and break up the fight. According to authorities, the suspect, identified as Zagazeta, then retrieved a kitchen knife and stabbed the child in the hip.
The great-grandmother saw the boy walking outside and followed him. That was when the boy revealed he had just been stabbed. Police quickly responded to a 911 call about the knife attack on Vista Isles Drive.
When paramedics rushed the victim to the hospital, Florida doctors assured that his injuries were non-life-threatening. Sunrise Police arrested Zagazeta and charged him with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

According to the official police report, the victim’s stab wound measured about one centimeter in depth.
Florida police say the 12-year-old admitted to first arming himself with a kitchen knife during the argument before putting it away at his great-grandmother’s insistence. However, when he moved to grab the gaming console, Zagazeta reportedly drew a knife hidden behind the TV and struck him.
Police arrested Zagazeta and transported him to the Broward County Jail. Zagazeta has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. His bail has been set at $20,000. He was still in jail as of Monday afternoon, and no future court date was listed.
In a public statement released by the Broward County Jail, officials provided updated details regarding the suspect’s custody status.
“Authorities allege this individual was booked on a charge classified as AGG BATTERY W/DEADLY WEAP DOMESTIC VIOL. In plain English, the allegation means the booking record accuses this person of making unlawful physical contact with another individual.”
“This appears to be the first booking featured in our records for this individual.”
“According to booking records, Broward County processed approximately 325 bookings during the last seven days, including 22 involving similar charges.”
“Under Florida law, courts in battery cases often impose no-contact orders as a condition of pretrial release. The allegations have not been proven in court, and all individuals are presumed innocent unless proven guilty,” the statement added.
News that the stabbing stemmed from a dispute over a gaming console sparked widespread outrage across social media.
“I think when I was 12 I was upset about my brother taking a gaming system away to college. How my parents and remedied this was they bought me a gamecube to mitigate animosity between us,” wrote one user on X.
“I need to hear what the 12 year old said before I can have an opinion,” added another.
“Pathetic. He took it too far,” read a separate comment.
