Fox News, the conservative news station owned by Rupert Murdoch was one of the few news networks that were threatened with a bioattack on Thursday. The News Station received a letter threatening that the next letter could contain a lethal pathogen .
Fox News host Bret Baier was the Fox News anchor who confirmed the receipt of the letter and broadcast about it on his show “Special Report.” He said that the Fox News headquarters in New York City received one such letter. The letter would also include the return address, “The MIB.”
Letters were also sent to Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert. The letters included claims that more were sent to The New York Times and NPR.
Reports indicate that the letters were sent from Portland, Oregon.
The letters remind us that right after September 11, 2001 there were a string of letter attacks in which the letters contained anthrax. Letters containing anthrax spores were mailed to several news media offices and two Democratic U.S. Senators, killing five people and infecting 17 others. According to the FBI, the ensuing investigation became “one of the largest and most complex in the history of law enforcement.”
The Amerithrax Investigation (called such because of its declination in its FBI files) would turn out to be one of the more costly and complex investigations in American history. The perpetrator of the Amerithrax attacks is shrouded in uncertainty regardless of the FBI’s insistence that he is guilty.
