Police received a report of a child who fell out of a silver car on a Florida highway. A witness reported the incident to the police, as the kid’s parents did not come to check on him. The incident happened on September 15, 2021.

Upon investigation, the witness told the police, “He just came falling out of it, rolled all the way over.” He could not remember the car model but knew the color of the vehicle. The Florida witness further explained, “It wasn’t like it was burning tires or anything. Yeah. Um I don’t know. I even tried to ask anybody to know that [he] was out of the [car]. That’s what I’m wondering if they don’t know he fell out.”

An officer noted, “I might have the vehicle pulled up right now.” After some time, the car with the mom came back to the spot to look for the child.

The mother admitted that she was sleeping in the car and did not know the child had fallen. Meanwhile, her daughter woke her up to say that their brother was missing. There were four kids in the car, and none of them was in car seats.

The mom’s 18-year-old brother was driving the car without even having a license. Moreover, he was high as he had smoked m–. He admitted to the police that he had more in the vehicle. The police officer expressed concern about the smell of smoke coming from the car and went on to search it. He found his mother’s Xanax, which turned out to be an unprescribed medication.

The police schooled the 26-year-old mother, Desiree Rodriguez, on basic safety for the kids while driving. Police arrested her for felony child neglect without great bodily harm and unlawful possession of controlled substances. Her brother was arrested for DUI.

After pleading guilty on both counts, she was sentenced to 2 years of community control followed by 2 years of supervised probation with her driver’s license suspended for 6 months on the dr*g charge.

Rodriguez got in trouble again when police found ammunition in her home during a random search on May 9, 2025. This violated her probation conditions. Furthermore, she had to take parenting skills courses and firearms safety courses.
