A moderately strong earthquake rattled homes across Southern California this afternoon, in what may turn out to be one of the bigger quakes in the region so far this year.
The quake struck at 4:53pm local time and had a preliminary reading of 5.9 reading of 5.4.
The epicenter of the quake was Anza Borrego Desert State Park, 22 km (13 miles) NNW from Borrego Springs and 45 km (28 miles) south from Palm Springs, CA.
Twitter reports suggest that the quake was felt across the region, including San Diego, Los Angeles, Orange County and further afield.
There are no reports of damage at this stage, although people on the ground described the quake as a “long one.”
