President Trump called out the Democratic leadership of Chicago after an 18-year-old struck five police officers. Rashad Johnson is accused of slamming into five police officers, trying to control the crowd when hundreds of teens were on the street.

The 79-year-old posted on Truth Social, “Teen takeover in Chicago. Five officers were badly hurt. The Mayor and Governor are terrible. Should I call for help?” The president slammed the leadership of Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson for the chaotic state. CBS Chicago reported that there were several such “teen takeovers” in Chicago, and the police had to arrest 53 individuals near Hyde Park.

23 arrests were made based on disorderly conduct, and 10 of these were juveniles. They were between the age groups 13 and 28. Some were also charged with reckless conduct, misdemeanors, and battery.

The 18-year-old was charged with first-degree attempted murder, aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon, and criminal damage to government property charges. The incident happened on Sunday, May 24. The officers were trying to calm down the crowd during an unofficial after-prom gathering.

The accused was driving a blue car in an eastbound lane in the 1200 block of South Loomis Street. He hit the officers and drove over a curb. He also struck a CPD squad car, a fence, and a pole before stopping the car. He was arrested on scene; however, it’s unclear if he was part of the gathering. He also had a gun in his vehicle. The five officers who were struck by the vehicle were taken to the hospital. Three of them stayed in the hospital the next day as well.

In the past year, the President has hinted at deploying the National Guard in the region. Trump has repeatedly clashed with the Chicago city hall and the Illinois statehouse. Earlier, the Supreme Court did not allow the President to deploy the National Guard. After the ruling, the 79-year-old claimed, “We will come back, perhaps in a much different and stronger form, when crime begins to soar again – Only a question of time!”

On the other hand, Mayor Johnson posted about “zero homicides” in Chicago despite the killing of 37 people in homicides after the Memorial Day Weekend. He wrote on X, “Here in Chicago, we’re focused on investing in our youth and strengthening our communities. While there is still more work to do, we are encouraged by a Memorial Day weekend that saw zero homicides.”

Moreover, he blamed the teen takeovers on the youngsters as well as their parents, who cannot hold them accountable. The mayor added, “I continue to call on parents and guardians to know where their children are and to help ensure they are safe and accounted for. There also must be accountability for the individuals who participated in the violent and reckless behavior.”
