Democratic Group Pranks Visitors With Fake Newt Gingrich Website

Newt Gingrich’s official political and campaign website can be found at Newt.org and his staffers are working hard to spread that message after a democratic group with the rights to the NewtGingrich.com website starting pranking the GOP Presidential hopeful.

Visitors to the NewtGingrich.com website are greeted with a different redirected website each time they type in the URL, sometimes it’s to a seemingly harmless Tiffany’s jewelry website (he was rumored to owe the company upwards of $500,000) and sometimes the user is redirected to blatantly negative and embarrassing stories from the politicians past, including references to his days with Freddie Mac, ill-timed vacations to Greece and various other campaign blunders.

The website prank was started by Democratic group American Bridge for the 21st Century.

If Gingrich wants the URL as his very own it’s currently up for sale on Craiglist where the group says:

“We’re asking for $1 million, but we’d be happy to accept $500,000 in bling. Heck in the spirit of Christmas we might even let it go for $10,000.”

No buyers have come forward at this time but for $10,000 it might be worth Gingrich and his staffers jumping on the chance to own the domain they should have already registered a very long time ago.

What do you think of the NewtGingrich.com pranks? I personally see it as a smart marketing move to sell off a URL that might otherwise lay dormant.
