A 33-year-old would-be Jedi who struck customers at Toys R US in Oregon with light sabers has been sentenced to 45 days jail and possible mental-health treatment.
David Allen Canterbury, the alleged Jedi, told Judge Kenneth Walker that he is already seeking mental-health treatment. Canterbury also apologized to his victims.
Portland police said Canterbury swung the Star Wars sabers — one in each hand — at three people inside a Toys-R-US on December 14. He then carried the light sabers outside the store and swung at police upon their arrival.
According to a report by the Oregonian, Police then tried to taser Canterbury but he apparently was a master at wielding the saber as he managed to deflect one of wires away.
Police eventually wrestled him to the ground before taking him into custody.
None of the people who were attacked with the light sabers were seriously injured or needed medical attention.
On Dec. 15, Canterbury pleaded no- contest to a fourth-degree assaulted and resisting arrested.
Although Mr. Canterbury has been banned from the Toys R Us where his light saber attack occurred, the judge dismissed charges of theft, disorderly conduct and interfering with a police officer.
