A woman employed as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at a nursing home walked into a courtroom, hoping for probation from a judge. Looking at the details of the case, the judge did not believe she was the right candidate for probation.
The judge asked what the woman was doing with her life. The judge noted she could not go through with the pre-sentence conditions. She had bond violations and expected the judge to side with her. On top of that, she did not go through the previous hearing. The judge called her out for being inoperative during the hospital incident.
The judge says, “I mean, that’s my problem, young lady. My problem is I see you out there drifting. You go about pick up this chart. You’re at the hospital. You’ve been drinking. You’re at the hospital. You’re absolutely uncooperative at the hospital.”
The judge noted, “I have concerns about this individual being, quite frankly, able to. I’m going to read this report to see whether she would be an adequate candidate for probation. But if you want to proceed with sentencing, we can.”
Her attorney argued, “Yes, Your Honor. I have reviewed the recommendation with Ms. Wilson. At this time, we are asking the court to adopt probation’s recommendation largely. We do understand there is a 10-day or an additional 10-day jail recommendation. Ms. Wilson is asking the court not to remand her at this time.”
She further added that she’s starting a new nursing school and also has a 2-year-old to look after. Wilson wanted the judge to allow her to continue probation, as she could not afford to go to jail.
With several discrepancies in her story, the judge called her bluff and gave her 93 days in jail. Earlier, he was ready to give her an 18-month probation period, AA meetings, and abstinence from all intoxicants. But she told him she hadn’t done the victim’s impact panel, leaving the judge irritated. The panel helps offenders understand the impact of their crime on victims. She hadn’t even signed up for it; hence, the judge questioned how she would do probation.
The courtroom video has more than 147K views with over 500 comments calling out the irresponsible woman. One viewer wrote in the comments, “If she rushes through and doesn’t complete court papers, how will she complete nursing school or follow doctor’s orders?” The second one added, “I would send her to jail. She will do the same thing over and over again.”
One more posted, “This person has never been held responsible for anything in her entire life.” “If she can’t get to court on time, she’s not going to be able to get to nursing school on time every day,” noted another viewer. Many viewers appreciated the judge, and one noted, “This was an excellent judge! We need a lot more like him to teach accountability.”
